The metal bracket seems to help with even pressure on gasket, but I took the advice of others and didn't use the cork gasket. I used the rtv gasket caulk stuff and let it harden like suggested. It seems to be working with no leak. The cork gasket seems to be useless, but the other parts helped. The price point of this is a little high , but it did the job and kept me from having to get a new lawn tractor. I would recommend.
